Pondering a family holiday this February half term? You’re not too late for a last minute getaway with the kids.
To inspire you, our Travel Seen experts have collated their Top 10 February Half Term Family Holidays…
- South Africa
With just a two-hour time difference, and a southern hemisphere, mid-summer climate ensuring plenty of sunshine, February half term is a great week to visit South Africa with kids. If you only have seven days to play with, then there is plenty to do in and around Cape Town; like seeing the penguins at Boulders Beach and heading to the top of Table Mountain. Got a fortnight or inset days to spare? Then mix city with safari and head into the South African game reserves for a malaria-free, real-life Lion King experience.
- Tenerife
February in the Canaries is a quieter time to visit, with a dreamy climate seeing temperatures hover around 21 degrees; and all that after just a 4 ½ hour flight with the kids to contend with!
With plenty of accommodation options to suit the size of your family; a kids’ club; its own sandy beach; and even children’s treatments in the luxurious spa; the Bahia del Duque is a great option for a half term holiday on the island. We’ve spotted some last minute availability for Scotland’s February half term week too!
- Skiing
You’re not too late for a 2025 family ski break! While options are now more limited, we’ve found last minute family ski deals everywhere from Chamonix to Austria.
For a greater choice of accommodation, ask your Travel Specialist about a ski holiday to one of Europe’s less well-known ski resorts; such as those in Slovenia and Bulgaria. These are often a good call for novice skiers too.
- Abu Dhabi
With its glorious mid-twenties temperatures, you’ll be guaranteed some winter sun on a February half term holiday to Abu Dhabi. There’s lots to keep the kids busy, from in-resort clubs to vast swimming pools, sandy beaches to attractions like Warner Bros. World™ Yas Island.
And Abu Dhabi has oodles of holiday luxury for adults too, such as its world-class spas and Michelin-star restaurants.
- Barbados
When you’ve only got a week to ten days to play with, a direct flight makes the most of your time abroad.
With direct flights from London and Manchester, Barbados is a popular Caribbean spot for British families seeking an island escape in February half term.
On the West Coast of the island, Crystal Cove by Elegant Hotels is a super option for luxurious, all-inclusive family accommodation on Barbados. The ultimate “fly and flop” destination.
- Florida
Dive into Walt Disney World Resort Florida this February half term. With average temperatures around 17 degrees, but very little rainfall; it’s a much more pleasant time of year to wander the vast attractions with younger kids.
Recent additions to the family-friendly resort include Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at the Magic Kingdom; Encanto entertainment at Epcot; and the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows.
- Portugal
Short-haul Portugal is a year-round family favourite for British luxury travellers. While February won’t have the near-guaranteed 20s temperatures of an Easter or May half term break, the climate is at a much more gentle level for outdoor activities with older kids; like mountain biking, golf and padel. Quinto do Lago is a fab option for active kids, while the Martinhal Sagres has indoor and outdoor heated pools and free use of the tennis and paddle courts in winter.
- Dubai
Renowned for its searing temperatures, February is a cooler time of year to visit Dubai with kids.
There is so much to do with children, from Ski Dubai to the Wild Wadi Waterpark, plus superb family-friendly dining, including the city’s famous all-you-can-eat brunches.
Or of course you can simply spend your days on the beach or by the pool, soaking up the sunshine before returning back to a cold and overcast Blighty!
- Iceland
You could always embrace the cold in February half term and head north to Iceland. February is one the best times of year to see the Northern Lights in Iceland. And there are plenty of wintry wonders to explore besides; like the country’s frozen waterfalls, and the famous warming pools of the Blue Lagoon, which is also free for kids (under-twos aren’t permitted).
- Rome
Take a fascinating history lesson on a tour of the Italian capital in February half term. It’s a quieter and nicer month for looking around than in the warmer months – which makes a city break more doable with children than in the spring and summer school holidays.
Plus, the luxury hotels have plenty to entertain and delight younger guests year-round; like the indoor pool and kids’ club at the Rome Cavalieri, and the pizza making and teddy turndown service at the Hotel de Russie.
